Devon and Cornwall's Police and Crime Commissioner candidates named

“The only comments that I have seen from the candidates relate to matters outside the commissioner's job description. When are they going to tell us what policies they propose to follow. They'll all say more bobbies on the beat. Even if this is a good idea - which it isn't - they don't say how they'll do it. It's the budget distribution that's important but none of the candidates mention that. Is that because it's too difficult?
As for bobbies on the beat, what I'd like to see is bobbies on the side of the road with a bit of kit that when pointed at a car, tells them immediately whether the car approaching is licensed, taxed, MoT'd and insured. People who drive illegally also tend to other anti-social behaviour. This technology on the side of the road can give real intelligence into other criminal activity.
When will we find out what the candidates stand for?”

“I have read much bumpf about the post of Police Commissioner, but I have yet to read how these new posts are going to be of benefit, to me. I suspect there will be no real benefit to the "ordinary man and woman in the street". It's going to be a political post, with Commissioners' toeing the Party Line. The first Commissioner's have to be elected, but there is now talk of "spin doctors" being appointed, on £50 k per year to "hype up" the Commissioner's profile. Crazy waste of taxpayers money, as usual.”
