Devon aim to retain winning formula
Top county amateur Adam Bridgewater aims to build on leading Devon to the 2012 Channel League title in his first term as player-captain.
Cornwall's 8½-6½ victory over Glamorgan at St Enodoc ensured Steve Rickard's Duchy team finished runners-up in the men's amateur regional league while confirming Devon as champions.
Devon skipper Bridgewater, 38, is already planning ahead. He said: "It's the first time in a long time we have won the league, and obviously we are all pleased about that.
"We are not planning on resting on our laurels. I said it recently, but I still think there is more to come from this team and, much as we are delighted to have won the Channel League, we will again set our targets higher next season.

"Ask any captain of the counties who play in the league, and they would all say the same and that the one to win is the English County Finals. We have to win the qualifier at South West Counties Week next summer to achieve that aim.
"Wiltshire have set the precedent. They have won our regional qualifier for the past two summers and gone on to win the county title back-to-back. Hats off to them, they have done very well, but ourselves – and Cornwall – are improving by the year.
"Speaking as Devon skipper we want to take the next step up next summer, if we can. We are already looking ahead to next year and into our winter training programme, and it won't be long before the captain's winter medals start.
"We can get a lot done in winter, off the course as well as on it, so that we are fully prepared and ready for the start of next season."
Bridgewater has had double reason for celebration, after topping the Devon County Golf Union order of merit. The Yelverton ace topped the standings with 69 points, three ahead of runner-up and county regular David Blick, from East Devon.
Yelverton's Dan Rosevear finished third following his recent Devon Open win. Next season's Devon order of merit is due to tee off with the Easter Challenge Cup at Saunton.
There are set to be alliance meetings in both Devon and Cornwall tomorrow, weather permitting. Cornwall County Professional Golfers' Alliance stage their second event of winter at Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club, while Devon professional Golfers' Alliance are set to stage their fourth event of 2012-13 season at Stover (Newton Abbot).
Next week's Devon Alliance pro-am trip to France has reached capacity, with a full entry list.
