Devon author Hilary Mantel attacks 'mannequin' Duchess of Cambridge
Devon author Hilary Mantel has launched a fierce attack on the Duchess of Cambridge, saying "her only point and purpose (is) to give birth."
The 60-year-old author, who won the Man Booker Prize in 2009 and 2012, compared Kate to Anne Boleyn, Marie Antoinette and Princess Diana during the lecture entitled Undressing Anne Boleyn.

"It's rather that I saw Kate becoming a jointed doll on which certain rags are hung," said the Budleigh Salterton-based writer.
"In those days she was a shop-window mannequin, with no personality of her own, entirely defined by what she wore.

“I've heard of the Duchess but never of Ms Mantel. Is her opinion of significance? And was she asked for it?”

“SKom - Whether she meant to or not Marie Antoinette played a key role in the people of France revolting against the french government/aritocracy. And because of Anne Berlin, the King of England decided to ditch Catholocism in favour of the protestant church. Pretty big effect on the world I'd say.”

“Funnily enough, my first comment on our (probable) future queen/princess consort or whatever she ultimately becomes was "great, just what we need, another fashionista in the anachronism that is the royal family"
DTP87 - Marie Antoinette - a massive effect on the world we live in? one of the world's most priviledged living in luxury playing at being a peasant, whilst many people struggled to survive (so no comparrison there then).
The 3 women named have barely touched the world in real terms compared to the greats this world has seen - on every level including true compassion, intellect, invention, discovery.............”
