Devon's Luke Friend wins a place at the X Factor judges' houses
Luke Friend will keep flying the flag for Devon after making it past the boot camp stage of the X Factor.
Luke, 19, from Teignmouth, made it to the judges' houses round despite being criticised for his performance on tonight's show.
Judge Sharon Osbourne said: "I don't think that was your best performance to date."
But Louis, who heads up the boys category, decided that Luke's past record spoke for itself and chose to give him a place.
He said: "Luke, I've made my decision - take a seat!£
Since starting the auditions, Luke’s fan base has grown dramatically. He has gone from having hundreds of followers on Twitter to more than 9,000.
He says: “I’m a normal guy so I find it weird people screaming at me.”
His headteacher, Matthew Shanks, said the school is backing the talented singer on the show.
“We are all incredibly proud of him and pleased this has happened to such a kind, caring and humble student,” said Mr Shanks.
“He is an inspiration to us all that we can achieve our goals if we work hard.
“You really could not meet a nicer, more polite young man.”
Earlier, Exeter's Shelley Smith also made it through but Barclay Beales, from Bow near Crediton, failed.
