EXETER band I Divide have been crowned Red Bull Bedroom Jam champions 2012 in a top national competition.

The live final of the competition took place at the Red Bull Studios in London, after selection for the final three by judges Ben Patashnik of Rock Sound, Andy Copping of the Download Festival, Becky Sugden of The Agency Group and Radio One's Daniel P Carter. I Divide won the competition through a public vote. The band were favourites throughout the popular competition following strong online public support.

I Divide are Dave Mooney, 22, on drums, Josh Wreford, 21, on rhythm guitar, Henry Selley, 22, on lead guitar, Tom Kavanagh, 25, on vocals and Kristen Hughes, 20, on bass.

They won the chance to record new material at the Red Bull Studios in London and to accompany Funeral for a Friend as a support act on their UK tour.

Lead singer Tom said: "It feels amazing to have won – we cannot thank everyone enough, everyone back home, family, friends, girlfriends. Without them we wouldn't be here. We're going on tour with Funeral for a Friend and recording the EP, it's a lot to take on board right now.

"We've made a heap of friends along the way; all the bands have been amazing. We're really looking forward to the rest of the year and the beginning of next year."

I Divide formed in 2011, after meeting each other through playing gigs locally in Exeter. The band meets two or three times a week to rehearse and write songs, and are on the road as much as possible.

Over the past 18 months the band have played with Deaf Havana, Inme, Senses Fail, Protest the Hero and Exit Ten, released a nine-track CD What's Worth More, and have spent the summer playing at UK festivals alongside the Red Bull Bedroom Jam competition.

I Divide will now be touring around the UK at the end of October, after recording a new CD.

They set off on the road with Funeral for a Friend early next year.

Guitarist Josh said: "The last two months have been incredible for us, the amount of time and money we've put in is crazy, it's such hard work, and now people are starting to listen and get involved everything is happening and is worthwhile.

"The recognition is a total reward, especially with Red Bull backing us. Over the next few years we aim to go further afield and promote ourselves beyond the UK, hopefully worldwide."
