Driver airlifted after car rolls down bank

A 54-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital yesterday afternoon after her car crashed and rolled into a field.

The driver had to be freed from her wrecked Mitsubishi by paramedics and firefighters after the incident on the A386 near Little Torrington, North Devon, shortly before 1pm.

No other vehicle is thought to have been involved.

The woman was flown to North Devon District Hospital with what was initially feared as a serious neck injury.

Devon and Cornwall Police later confirmed the woman, who is from the area, had suffered only "minor" injury.
