Drugs found at Petroc in Barnstaple after sniffer dog operation
A DRUG dog operation at Petroc led to a 31-year-old man being given a warning after being caught in possession of cannabis.
The operation, which saw a team of police officers with sniffer dogs search the college’s Brannams campus and main site, took place after senior members of staff invited the police onto the premises.

A spokesman for the college said the 31-year-old had been “dealt with using the standard disciplinary procedures” and denied he was a member of staff.
The Journal had been told by an anonymous caller the man was employed by the college.

When asked if the man was a student the spokesman wouldn’t give any further details.
A Statement from the college said : “At Petroc the safeguarding of our students underpins everything we do.
“We have a zero tolerance drugs policy across all our campuses and work in partnership with the police and other agencies to ensure a safe learning environment for all our students, staff and visitors.
“Throughout the academic year we plan periodic passive drug dog operations. This reinforces our safeguarding stance and sends a very clear zero tolerance message to anyone entering our campuses.
“On the rare occasion drugs are found on site we take the matter very seriously and deal with each case on an individual basis. Any student found in possession of drugs runs the risk of being excluded from the College.”
