Drury promoted to eighth dan by martial art expert
LOCAL martial arts instructor Paul Drury has got his year off to the perfect start after being promoted to 8th Dan in taekwondo by one of the most famous martial art experts Kim Bok Man.
Paul, who runs a full-time martial arts school in Dawlish and a club in Exminster, has been training for 42 years and teaching since 1978.
He picked up his 8th Dan recognition from Kim Bok Man, who for 21 years was the chief master instructor to the South East Asian Taekwon-Do Association.
Speaking about his promotion, Drury said: "Being promoted to 8th Dan by someone like Grandmaster Kim, is such an honour, as he is respected around the world as one of the greatest exponents of taekwondo and a true legend in the martial arts."

The seminar will be held at the Red Rock Centre in Dawlish on Saturday, June 22.
Nine members of Paul Drury's Black Belt Academy, have kicked off 2013 in style, by taking the next step to black belt.
Both taekwondo and kickboxing students from the academy, were put through their paces, with fitness testing, pad work, sparring, forms and theory.
Paul Drury said: "All the students did a great job. I will say that a number of those who should have tested, were struck down with the nasty bug that seems to be going around at the moment, so were unable to test this time, we hope that are feeling better soon and should be testing next month."
