Dull entrepreneurs cast a shadow over hybrid show
The Apprentice meets Dragon's Den with a little bit of Mary, Queen of Shops thrown in for good measure in High Street Dreams, a hybrid which has very little in the way of excitement to offer.
Cosmetics entrepreneur Jo Malone helps to make dreams come true for budding businessmen and women. They each have a great idea but can they make it work and win a pitch to the people who will provide backing?
Jo may have worked hard to get where she is in industry, but she is too nice and too soft to make for interesting viewing.
Commercial property giant Nick Leslau (who you may remember from the excellent Secret Millionaire) is on hand to offer his advice and expertise.
But again, his personality doesn't come across and there is little to explain how he made it to the Sunday Times Rich List with a £200 million portfolio.
But what the dull presenters lack in personality is made up for by the exuberant enthusiasm of the participants – Shropshire schoolteachers Jo and Kay, and husband and wife team Paul and Maria.
The couple have invested their life savings in a nutritional drink for children, Nutriyum, but keep falling at every hurdle – it tastes fake, it doesn't have real fruit in it, the packaging is wrong, even the name doesn't work.
In the end, Paul and Maria bow out before they are given the elbow.
Jo and Kay have much more luck. That's because the two teachers have a brilliant idea – Denkit, an outdoor adventure package for kids with everything you need to build a den, including a hand carved wooden mallet.
They have been selling it at market stalls for £45 but that's way too much, and Nick points them in the direction of Far Eastern suppliers who can make it for much less, allowing them to retail it at £25.
The boss of The Entertainer toy stores is impressed and agrees to place an order for all 52 of his shops.
The girls are on their way.
And tonight? Luther, BBC One, is getting crazier with another serial killer (Paul Rhys) on the loose. But it's still really watchable.
