Pockets of the South West were given a light dusting of snow last night, as motorists were warned to take extra care as driving conditions worsened.

The Met Office last night said rain, sleet and snow were all possible later in the week.

Many motorists were already reporting ice on the region’s roads yesterday, as temperatures hovered around freezing in many areas.

Forecasters at the Exeter-based Met Office last night warned that the cold spell will continue to grip Britain for the rest of the week.

A spokesman said: “The hazard is sleet and snow turning to ice overnight. Drivers will need to be extra careful.”
