Dynamic businesses lead the way on our business awards shortlist
The shortlist for the 2013 Western Morning News Business Awards can now be revealed with a host of companies across the Westcountry vying for one of 15 awards.
Judges sat down last week to go through more than 160 entries and arrived at the shortlist after several hours of lively discussion.
The awards will celebrate the achievements of the best businesses in the South West – and the talented individuals that run them.
Business Minister Lord Younger will give the keynote speech at the awards dinner, which will be held on November 21 at the Holiday Inn, in Plymouth, following previous ceremonies which have taken place in Exeter and Cornwall.
There are 15 categories this year, including new categories such as Employee of the Year, Exporter of the Year and Manufacturer of the Year.
There will also be a Lifetime Achievement Award, not listed on the shortlist, which will be presented on the night.
Previous winners of the prestigious Business of the Year award are the Plymouth-based luxury bed maker Vi-Spring and the Padstow-based Seafood Restaurant.
The main sponsor is South West Water's Source for Business initiative. Other sponsors include: Brittany Ferries; Bishop Fleming, City College Plymouth, Plymouth University and First Great Western.
Western Morning News editor Bill Martin said: "I'd like to extend my thanks for the judges for their time and expertise in judging this year's awards. All of the companies to feature on the awards shortlist should be proud of their achievement in getting this far in the process.
"The Westcountry has a number of innovative, talented and hard working businesses which are trading nationally and internationally and the shortlist is a reflection of this success."
