Election battle looms for Plymouth commuter belt
CORNWALL has fired the starting gun in this year's council elections.
Voters go to the polls on May 2 to decide who will represent them in the unitary council and in their local town and parish council on May 2.
Cornwall has been run by a unitary council since district councils were abolished in 2009.
Devon County Council will also hold elections on May 2, but there are no borough or district elections this year.

Candidates wishing to stand must submit their completed nomination papers to electoral services by noon on Friday, April 5. The final list of people nominated will be published on April 24.
In 2009 there were 123 electoral divisions for Cornwall Council but this has been changed by the Boundary Committee for England to 122 divisions with one multi-member division in the Bude area.
