Employ gangs for the road repair work
REFERENCE Pothole Pete and these pot holes: a lot of the holes and dips in our road were caused when various firms laid new media cables in our road and paths. As my road has so many, you lose count.
These trenches were made across the roads and when back filled were not consolidated properly (compacted properly). This caused a void in trench which caused the dips.
The council did not always inspect the works like they should have and because most of the firms who carried out these works have gone into liquidation, now there is no course of redress. As for the pot holes we see else where most of these are supposed to be repaired by Amey Construction. The trouble is they just sweep out the water and the rubble and pluck a bit of tarmac in and ram in flat (in seconds); they normally have more then one lorry to carry out this work.
Now they call it a temporary repair which lasts until it rains or we get cold weather or a large car, lorry or bus drives over it and the weight causes it to crack and break away again and then we, as taxpayers, have to pay to have it done again. And so it goes on!

Why doesn't the council employ, like they used to do, a few gangs of men/women to carry out this work? It would be far cheaper in the long run and not pay all Amey's overheads.

WITH all the talk about potholes I thought why don't the highways department fill the holes with the stuff they make speed bumps out of? They never seem to break up or go to pieces.
