Energy firm submits plans for six 115m-tall turbines
Plans have been submitted to develop a new wind farm in Devon including six turbines more than 100 metres tall.
EDF Energy Renewables has submitted a full planning application to Torridge District Council for a six-turbine, 115m tall wind farm at Hollow Panson, near Chapmans Well.

The proposed wind farm would be capable of producing up to 12MW of energy – enough to supply the annual domestic electricity requirements of approximately 6,500 homes and save approximately 12,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Tim Wheeler, EDF Energy Renewables onshore wind development manager, said "EDF Energy Renewables is committed to developing new low carbon electricity generating capacity to maintain energy supply, tackle climate change, and maintain affordable energy prices.
"We believe that the site identified at Hollow Panson is an excellent opportunity to establish a wind farm that can contribute towards this."

It originally proposed turbines of 126.5 metres tall – making them the tallest in Torridge.
But the company later announced it had reduced the proposed height by 11.5 metres – meaning each turbine would have a tip height of 115 metres.
The Torridge branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England has said it was concerned about the "proliferation of wind farms and large turbines" in North Devon and North Cornwall.
Penny Mills, chair of the Torridge Group of the CPRE said: "The new proposed height of the turbines at 115m is still very large by Torridge District Council's own Landscape Assessment. There is nothing in this area that remotely reaches this height.
"It's 55m taller than the lit anemometer which is already adding to the light pollution and is an incongruous feature in this landscape and 94.5m taller than the ancient Grade I-listed Ashwater Church. So, in other words the height reduction is hardly significant."
The public consultation on the application is due to close on January 29.

“I think it should have said:
EDF Energy Renewables onshore wind development manager, said "EDF Energy Renewables is committed to developing new electricity generating capacity to get hold of the big subsidies and maintain, at no risk to us, our huge profits. Unfortunately, and we don't really like to mention it, energy prices will rocket and lead to increased fuel poverty. But hey, we don't care, we're a French company and we don't mind ruining your landscape as well."
And by the way, 12MW is power, not energy. There's a big difference, which wind developers don't like you to know. It enables them to exaggerate the number of homes that might be supplied on those occasions when the wind happens to blow.”
