Aces aiming to kit out buildings
THEY have two second-hand mobile buildings and now they need to raise funds to fit them out.
That's why Exeter Aces Cycle Speedway is entering our Cash For Your Community competition which has a top prize of £2,000.
The Exeter Aces, based in Marsh Barton, are the only cycle speedway group in the South West, which means visiting clubs have to travel quite a distance – they come from Oxford, Southampton, Bristol and Wales and need changing facilities, refreshments and showers.
And that is what the Exeter club, which this year is celebrating its 50th anniversary, is hoping to provide.

The club's fundraising officer Bob Woodward said: "We got a grant of £2,500 from the city council and most of that went on the purchase of the two mobile buildings.
"Now we are trying to fundraise to fit them out.
"We managed to get a second-hand kitchen and are also using that building as a club room.
"In the other building we want to put three toilets – ladies, gents and disabled – changing rooms and showers.
"We don't have showers at the moment which means that when the weather is bad the visitors have to go home muddy."
There used to be eight cycle speedway clubs in the city but the Aces is now the only one remaining.
It has about 80 members, some coming from as far afield as Exmouth and Whimple, with ages ranging from four to 67.
And they are successful – in the South and South West they won both the first and second league titles last year. Two of their young female members, aged 16 and 18, are racing for their country and are going to Australia to compete.
It is obvious that their facilities don't match up to their achievements. Mr Woodward said: "We are also fundraising as we have equipment for the use of new members, clothing and helmets so that they don't have to spend out before they try it and see if they like it."
There is also a second prize of £1,200 and a third of £800 as well as 40 smaller amounts up for grabs.
Nominations have to be in by Monday, February 11.
They can be from voluntary and community groups based in and benefiting people in Exeter and the surrounding areas, Mid Devon and South Devon.
