Exeter City 4 Exmouth Town 2: Match report
Exeter City booked tie with Plymouth Argyle in the quarter-finals of the Devon St Luke's Bowl after coming from behind to beat a spirited Exmouth Town side at St James's Park on Wednesday night.
Exmouth, who play in the South West Peninsula League Premier Division - step six on the non-league football ladder, arrived in hope rather than expectation of making it into the next round.
But they took lead five minutes into the match when a free-kick from just inside the halfway line was floated to the back post by Sam Woodin. The City defenders got caught under the ball and as an Exmouth player headed the ball back towards the six yard box Lewis Coombes was left with the simple task on nodding past astranded Christy Pym.
However, the lead didn't last long as Jake Gosling was clipped by Jamie Moore as he attempted to run into the box. Tom Nichols fired the free-kick low to the bottom right corner. Grant Fisher got a hand to the ball put parried the shot into the path of Matt Jay who fired in the rebound.

Jay then made it 2-1 after 11 minutes as he drilled home a deflected cross from Gosling.
City dominated the remainder of the first half, with Gosling, Nichols and Keohane all getting into good shooting or crossing position but just lacking the accuracy needed to deliver telling blow.
The second half Exmouth came out much more positive, with Andrew Thomson hitting a shot from the edge of the box and Ace High getting the visitors back on terms when he side footed Dan Boere's shot past Pym.
But again City's response was swift as Jay fed the ball through to Nichols on the edge of the box and he rode a couple of challenges before side-footing a shot past Fisher as he came out to close.
It wasn't until three minutes from the end though that victory was secured as Nichols was tripped in the penalty box and converted his own spot kick.
