Faces putting riviera tourism on map
SOUTH Devon residents are the stars of the English Riviera Tourism Company's 100th anniversary guide.
They were selected through a Faces of the English Riviera appeal to appear in the glossy pages of the 100,000 copies of the 2013 official English Riviera destination guide.

The English Riviera Tourism Company, together with the Herald Express, selected local models and arranged photo shoots for the guide as well as this year's online and offline marketing campaigns.
More than 70 people of all ages were short-listed to be part of the photo shoot. The photographs were taken across the resort during last summer at attractions, eateries, beaches and places of interest. Models of all ages were included, individually and in family groups.

Among them is nine-year-old Daisy-Star Zulhayir and her four-year-old brother Marly-Sol who both go to Shiphay Academy.
Mum Jo suggested they apply after seeing an article in the Herald Express: "We ended up working with the tourist board throughout the summer, on various locations around the Bay, and Tom took some great shots of Daisy-Star who made it on to page three, the entire full page with Amy, a member of staff from Living Coasts, feeding the penguins.
"Daisy-Star, had also made it on to page four, again a full page wearing a mask and snorkle on the beach, and her little brother made it on to to page 50, again a full page.
"Two local schoolchildren, born and bred, are representing with wonderful area we live in. And to top it off the modelling they did was paid, and we took them to Butlin's and Legoland with the money we had earned on the family shots."
Last year's guide produced £6million of accommodation bookings and the 2013 campaign is expected to exceed this figure.
Carolyn Custerson, the ERTC's chief executive said: "I was delighted by the response of local residents to this new campaign, designed to promote the English Riviera nationally. Our whole resort, including tourism businesses and now locals too, are working together putting their heart and soul into promoting the resort. We are already getting great interest and feedback. I'd like to thank all those who participated for their wonderful support.
"Having a good stock of compelling imagery is critically important to how we are perceived as a resort and we have worked hard to set up a new online image library for local businesses to use including 2,500 images and seven new videos.
"The new images taken this summer have also been uploaded so tourism businesses can use them to attract more visitors to the English Riviera.
"We expect more excellent coverage for the English Riviera as a result."

“Well Sidney, why dont you just go and live in Nottingham, no beaches there, but I am sure plenty for you to whinge and whine about (as usual).”

“Actually, everytime I have walked along any of the beaches in Torbay, which is very often,I have never come across 'empty beer bottles' or 'a syringe'. Sweeping statement as ever. As for not finding 'any happy holiday makers', surely using local people in our publicity is actually a nicer thing to do as they live here permenantly. Nine times out of ten, holiday makers are happy anyway because....they are on holiday.”

“Do they need a caption for the picture. '' Look mummy I've just found an empty beer bottle and a syringe on this dirty Torquay beach.''”
