Today Terry – who will be demonstrating his skills and those of his falcons at the Westcountry Game Fair next month – has more than 40 years' experience in the sport.

Visitors to the Westcountry Game Fair, to be held at the Royal Bath and West Showground, near Shepton Mallet, on Saturday and Sunday March 9 and 10, will be able to watch a series of flying demonstrations.

Terry will talk spectators through the progression of training, natural history relating to birds of prey and the history of falconry.

Visitors to the Westcountry Game Fair will also be able to learn how Terry works with the birds and will see them swooping and diving through the air.

The birds on display will include Harris hawks, Bengelese eagle owl, lannerette and many more.

Falconry will be just one of the demonstrations taking place in the indoor and outdoor arenas this year. Others include gundog training, ferreting, wildfowling, fly casting and a parade of gundogs.

The show also includes a clay shoot; a shooting school run by the British Association of Shooting and Conservation; air rifle coaching; fly-casting demonstrations and coaching; archery; racing ferrets; vintage tractors and machinery; a smallholders area and cookery theatre.

An indoor countryside shopping village at the show claims to boast everything for the countryman or woman – from wellington boots to hipflasks, rat traps to shotguns – plus local food and drink.

Six Western Morning News readers will be attending the Westcountry Game Fair for free. Six sets of family tickets for two adults and two children worth £29 are on their way to our competition winners: Wendy Hoon; Harry Elliott; Pam Human; Mandy Clemens; Jules Dennis and Megan Beer.
