Falmouth hotel razed to the ground as next chapter begins
It was an important step in the re-birth of a seaside hotel in Cornwall reduced to a smouldering skeleton by flames a few months ago.
Demolition on what was left of the Falmouth Beach Hotel at Gyllyngvase in the town began yesterday in preparation for a new building. On the afternoon of April 30, a blaze tore through the 120-room three-star hotel, fanned by strong winds.

Just 16 bedrooms in the four-storey building survived the ferocity of the fire.
Most of the guests were out and about in the popular harbour town at the time, but those inside the hotel were evacuated safely.

It is believed the devastation might have been caused accidentally by workmen carrying out repairs.
Earlier this week the Evans family who owned the hotel held an event in the town to canvas the views of local people for how the new hotel should look.
Once the proposals have been drawn-up they will be submitted to Cornwall Council for planning permission.

“@lulu289 The demolition ball is certainly rolling and the phoenix will soon be rising from the ashes...! (he said, mixing his metaphors)”

“Still so sad seeing where the hotel used to be, glad the ball is already rolling to create the new version of it though.”
