A FASHION show helped raise funds for people with illnesses in Torbay.

Hoopers handed a cheque to the Crohn's and Colitis UK Torbay group.

The money was raised after a fashion show was organised at Newton Abbot Racecourse by Helen Genaway, from Torbay Hospital and Kim Hill from Hollister with the help of the department store.

Seven patients braved the catwalk as models and the event raised £1,476.50 for Crohn's and Colitis UK Torbay Group and £225 for bowel cancer charities.

An event spokesman said: "Finding out you have life-changing illness can be daunting, and the added stress of the appearance related side effects of treatment can be demoralising and very hard to cope with.

"This can have serious consequences on self-esteem and confidence at a time when a positive attitude is very important.

"Events such as this can help them regain a sense of control and normality at a time when diagnosis and treatment can make everything feel overwhelming.

"Our special thanks to Hollister for sponsoring the event, Hoopers of Torquay for dressing our models and supplying prizes, Andrew Hill Salon for the hair and Clarins for the makeovers."
