Fatal crash sees Willand match postponed as players mourn

WILLAND Reserves had their Premier Division game against St Martins postponed following a fatal motorway accident near Taunton on Saturday morning.

A number of Willand players knew Daniel Gunn, the young man who died in the accident, and were left distraught.

St Martins agreed that under the circumstances it was better to postpone the game.

Thorverton pulled off a 3-0 victory against Exeter University reserves which has eased their relegation plight.

Morchard Bishop suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to the bottom team Exmouth Amateurs and that has really damaged their chances of catching up with the leaders. Steve Morrish scored for Morchard.

Elsewhere Feniton missed out on going top when they lost 3-1 at Seaton, Heavitree were 2-1 winners at Newtown to cling on in the title race and Beer won 2-0 at Clyst Valley.

Sidbury United's hopes of beating and overtaking leaders Chard Town in Division One were undone by a 2-1 defeat at Chard, just their second loss this season.

Bow AAC go third after they won 2-1 against a battling Cullompton, Alex Bowden and Dean Jones scoring.

Wellington were held 2-2 by Tipton St John who equalised in the last minute from Jody Freeman.

Witheridge went down 4-2 at the University. Seb Spaniol scored twice for the college team.

Alphington snatched a 1-0 win against East Budleigh, with Ryan Moody scoring.

Basement rivals Culm and Colyton drew 2-2. Colyton got a late penalty after Culm led 2-0 through John Alford and Ben Sharland.

Elmore are galloping away with the Division Two leadership after crushing Clyst Valley 8-0. Four-goal Jordan Copp, Kevin Mills (2), Rhys Parsons and Matt Atkins scored.

Dawlish United suffered a surprise 3-0 defeat at Pinhoe, whose Dean Voaden, Lee Dunn and Luke Phillips scored.

That enabled Beacon Knights to go second following their 2-0 victory against Halwill. Danny Searle and an own goal earned the win.

Chagford won 3-2 against Westexe with Rob Lethbridge, Rob Thorn and Josh Stanbury scoring.

Division Three pacemakers Dolphin beat North Tawton 3-0. Jimmy Lee-Shaw, Marc Smith and Elliot Weeks scored.

Second-placed Newtown beat Winkleigh 4-1 with Simon Piper, Danny Wills, Alex Woolsgrove and Will Hart on target.

Crediton United kept their title challenge alive with a 2-0 win at Hemyock, but level on points are neighbours Newton St Cyres who won a thriller at Upottery 4-3.

Lympstone dropped points in a 0-0 draw with South Zeal and it finished 1-1 at Ottery St Mary against visiting Offwell Rangers. Dan Jewell was Ottery's scorer with Corey Couch replying for Rangers.

Tedburn St Mary ran out 6-1 winners at Sandford. Sam Reeves (2), John Bailey, Lee Moore, Simon Durrant and Darren Hughes scored the Ted's goals.

Chulmleigh closed the gap on inactive Division Four leaders Heavitree with an 11-1 rout of Seaton Town.

However, Axminster clung on to third place with a 5-2 win against Exmouth Town.

Woodbury won an exciting game at the University 5-3, with Alex Hughes and Andy Bennett scoring twice. Dec Bourne also scored as did Tom Jones (2) and Joe Trigg for the college.

The Lords XI won 4-1 against Newtown after being behind at the break. Julian Wills (2), Sam Page and Mike Holding were the Lords' scorers.

Runaway Division Five leaders Cheriton Fitzpaine suffered an horrendous 5-0 loss at bottom-of-the-table St Martins.

Rob Speakman (2), Steve Bassett (2) and Ollie Reeves scored for the Saints.

Culm United are up to second after their 4-1 win at promotion rivals Countess Wear.

Rhys Cruwys, Steve Alford, Martin Loader and Carl Todd scored for Culm. Nathan Foggin netted for the Dynamoes.

Sampford Peverell enjoyed a 7-0 win against a depleted Clyst Valley.

Kris Roper and Chris Hawkins both scored twice, Terry Martin, Simon Budd and Jack Bridgman added singles.

Topsham won 1-0 at Westexe, with Ryan Burrows scoring. Second-from-bottom Uplowman were unable to raise a side for their game at Hatherleigh.

Dawlish United clung on to top place in Division Six after a narrow 2-1 win at Stoke Hill, but rivals Feniton strolled to a 4-0 victory against Chagford.

Jamie Brimblecombe, Louie Dyer, Danny Lewis and Mike Ebdon were the scorers.

Dunkeswell beat Amory Argyle 3-2.

Amory Park Rangers had better luck at Topsham where they ran out 4-1 winners.

Silverton suffered a surprise 4-0 defeat at home to Morchard Bishop whose Ryan Piper (2), Phil Greenslade and Pat Phillips were the scorers.

Division Seven leaders Fluxton were too strong for Newton St Cyres as Mark Searle hit a hat-trick in a 5-2 success. Alex Paget and Tom Rapps also scored.

Halwill beat Tedburn 3-0 with Gary Sleep netting twice.

Tipton St John blew Colaton Raleigh away 5-1, with a James Gosney hat-trick and a Connell Lovering double.

Otterton enjoyed an 8-2 victory against Ottery St Mary, with hat-tricks from Carl Martin and Ben Yoemans.

In Division Eight Bickleigh shot up to third after their 5-3 win against Hemyock. Lewis Howe (2), George White, Alex Bressington and Matt Lyndsey scored Bickleigh's goals.

Sidbury, docked nine points earlier this season, are battling back and a 2-1 win against Offwell has renewed their hopes of promotion.
