A 62-YEAR-OLD man died and his daughter was admitted to hospital after being overcome by carbon monoxide fumes at their house in Devon.

A neighbour alerted the emergency services at around 4am on Wednesday after hearing a dog barking from the house in Undertown, Ugborough, near Ivybridge.

Paramedics tried to revive the man, who was found unconscious in a chair, and rushed him to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where he was pronounced dead at around 9am.

His 31-year-old daughter was also taken to hospital suffering from the effects of carbon monoxide poisoning. She has since responded to treatment and was expected to be released from hospital yesterday. The family pet had to be put down.

Devon and Cornwall Police said there were no suspicious circumstances and that an investigation was being carried out on behalf of the coroner.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Karen Stiven said it appeared to be "a tragic accident" caused by a faulty appliance.

"We are waiting for an engineer to go into the house," she said yesterday.
