Fishing crew declare emergency after big leak
A fishing crew issued a mayday call after their boat began taking on water eight miles off the Cornwall coast.
The group onboard the local fishing boat called Galcadora raised the alarm on Friday when they saw water around the engine from a burst pipe.
An all-weather lifeboat from Padstow and the search and rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose responded to a call at around 10.40am.
The Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat arrived first at the scene to find the fishermen had managed to stem the intake of water from the pipe used to wash the boat deck.
A spokesperson for the RNLI said: "The fishermen were happy to return to Newquay Harbour under their own power, escorted by another local fishing boat Tizzardlee-On, so the helicopter and both lifeboats were thanked for their prompt response and stood down by Falmouth Coastguard."
