Fit-again Tyler Harvey catches eye of John Sheridan

Promising young Plymouth Argyle striker Tyler Harvey has already caught the eye of new manager John Sheridan.

Harvey has returned to training this week after a calf injury, which he suffered in the 1-0 defeat by Wycombe Wanderers at Home Park on December 29.

The 17-year-old apprentice had made his full debut three days earlier, and scored a late equaliser in the 1-1 draw with visiting Torquay United.

Harvey will be in Argyle's squad for their npower League Two clash against Morecambe at Home Park today. Sheridan said: "He has trained the last two days. I like the look of him. I'm not bothered if they are 16, 17 or 18. If I feel he's good enough I will throw him in.

"I have seen him this week, but I had spoken to people before and they had been very positive about him. He's just potential at the moment but I like what I see. Hopefully, I can give him different things, on the way I feel as though a striker should play.

"If that can benefit and help him as a player all well and good. I know he was out for a week with a calf injury so he's just coming back, but he will definitely be in the squad."

The highly-rated Harvey, whose progress has been monitored by several top clubs, has already agreed to sign a professional contract with the Pilgrims in the summer.

One player at Home Park with whom Sheridan is already familiar is Jamie Lowry, the former Chesterfield midfielder. Lowry was at Chesterfield when Sheridan was appointed as their manager in the summer of 2009.

However, after a good start to the following season, Lowry suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury which kept him sidelined until February 2011. Lowry had a two-month loan spell at Crewe Alexandra last term before being released by Sheridan. That led to Lowry signing for Argyle as a free agent in the summer.

The 25-year-old only made 18 starts and seven substitute appearances for Chesterfield with Sheridan as their manager. Had it not been for his serious knee injury, Lowry's career path could have been completely different.

Sheridan said: "It was a crying shame because I probably could have made a lot of money on him when I first went in there. I think Jamie scored six goals in nine games. He was flying at the time but, unfortunately, he got an injury and it did set him back.

"It is difficult when you get injuries. I have been there myself, but it's a fresh start for him and me. We are at a new club.

"I like Jamie as a lad and I think he likes me as a manager. I was just being honest and truthful with him when he left Chesterfield.

"I think Jamie understands. I have spoken to him and it's a fresh start for him now. If I can get out of him what I know he has got, he will be a great asset to us."

Sheridan's first match as Argyle manager sees them take on Morecambe, who moved up to 17th position in League Two after a 2-1 home win against Dagenham and Redbridge on Tuesday.

He said: "I have been in this league and I know what teams are like in this league.

"Any team can beat any other on their day. Like ourselves, Morecambe could go on and win four or five games.

"They are that type of team. They are strong, organised and a threat at set plays. They don't make the game difficult. But it's important I concentrate on what we do. We know we have got to win football matches because of the position we are in.

"Three out of the next four games are at home and I expect us to pick points up."
