Fun of the countryside on display at Westcountry Game Fair 2013
Details have been unveiled for this year's Westcountry Game Fair – the annual gathering for country sports enthusiasts and country lovers from across the region.
This year Somerset Smallholders will have their biggest ever presence at the event, at the Bath and West Showground on March 9 and 10, with activities from willow-making demonstrations to poultry sales on show. There will also be hurdle making, alpaca products, a blacksmith artist and a number of farm animals.
Ann Parkhouse, membership secretary for the Somerset Smallholders, said, "While the financial world is full of gloom, we're seeing a resurgent interest in all things smallholding. From growing a few vegetables in a patio container to keeping hens in the garden, from rural crafts to wholesale self-sufficiency." In addition, the show has a mix of have-a-go activities including archery, air rifles, Terrier and Lurcher shows, family dog show, clay shooting; fascinating demonstrations both indoor and outdoor – top names in the areas of falconry, wildfowling, ferreting, gun dog training and more.
Educational insight into a variety of countryside issues and sports and a fabulous shopping village all under cover in four halls. There will be a variety of companies selling a range of products from country clothing, guns, deer stalking equipment to gundog equipment, local food and drink and crafts.
