A FUND is to be wound up after raising almost £4,000 for the families of the victims in the Hamelin Way fatal car crash.

The trustees of the Hamelin Way fund say they will close the fund at the end of this month.

The final amount will be announced when all the collection boxes have been retrieved and counted.

Chris Thomas, treasurer, said: "We will be calling a halt to the fund at the end of September.

"We have raised almost £4,000 but more money is still trickling in."

The trustees have been in contact with the family of Con Twomey, 39, and his wife Elber, 36, from Meelin in County Cork.

Their 16-month-old son, Oisin, and unborn daughter did not survive the crash on July 10.

Trustee Susie Colley said: "The family are very grateful for the money that is paying for their travel costs to and from the hospital. It is the least we can do."

The trustees were told that Elber's recovery is ongoing and Con's condition is slowly improving.

The fund aims to also support the family of father-of-two Marek Wojciechowski, the driver of the Vauxhall Vectra which was in collision with the Twomey's VW Golf.
