Gazette will keep it in the headlines
TODAY the Gazette launches its campaign to call for a swift repair to Tiverton's Grand Western Canal.
Save Our Canal will call for Devon County Council to come up with a solution which ensures the long-term future of the country park before its 200th anniversary in 2014.
The Gazette, will also encourage readers to support the Friends of the Grand Western Canal in any way they can.
Gazette editor Patrick Phelvin said: "The canal is a rare resource in Mid Devon, and one which people of all ages and from all walks of life use.

"Whether it's Jo Pavey using its towpath for training for London 2012, dog walkers exercising their pets alongside the waterway or children learning to ride their bikes there, the canal matters to most residents of the district perhaps more than they might have realised before this awful incident.
"Fortunately there is a committed team of friends who are well connected and motivated to see the canal restored to its former glory.
"We will do our bit to see that their efforts are recognised and encourage those in Government – both local and national – do the right thing for Mid Devon."
