The event is held on parkland north of Launceston, with a natural amphitheatre between the River Ottery and a large lake providing the perfect showground.
As well as sporting contests, there is plenty of entertainment for accompanying families, with fairground rides and arena events, running from 10am through to 5pm.
Returning to the fair by popular demand are the red-jacketed Docklands Honda Imps Motorcycle Display Team, who last performed here some 13 years ago. The smartly turned out youngsters from one of the most deprived areas of London perform daredevil stunts on motorbikes.
“I think the motorcycle display team are the highlight,” says fair spokesman Mike Williams. “They put on a really good show and it is nice to see youngsters enjoying themselves.”
Skilled horsemanship will be the focus of the display by the Mounted Games Association of Great Britain, with exciting competition between several teams of four riders and their ponies.
And magnificent, beady-eyed birds of prey can be seen up close at the Eagle and Vulture Show, whilst numerous packs of hounds, the pride of the Westcountry hunting community, will come together for a mass display of glossy coats and wagging tails.
For sportsmen and women there are plenty of opportunities to compete, in fly casting, clay pigeon shooting, lurcher racing and gun dog competitions. There is also ferret racing, dog showing and archery.
For those members of the family less keen on fur and feathers, there are displays of vintage cars, helicopter rides, and fairground rides, and a craft tent and country skills demonstration area.
Some 150 trade stands will offer sporting clothing and other country essentials.
The last fair in 2006 raised £30,000 for good causes. The principal beneficiary from this year's fair will be the Children's Hospice Southwest Precious Lives Appeal, with donations to a number of other local charities. A raffle will also be held for the hospice appeal.
