Alan Gow is glad to be on the road again with Grecians

Alan Gow is hoping that Exeter City can get back to winning ways on Saturday, when they travel to face an in-form Morecambe side at the Globe Arena.

City have gone three games without a win in npower League Two, in a run which culminated in a 0-0 draw at home to struggling Aldershot Town last Saturday.

However, having won nine games already on the road this term, Gow said that City can approach their next match with confidence – as they seem to be set up to play better football away from home.

"Obviously, we have been better away from home, I think maybe it is just the way we have played and the system that we have had," he said.

"With me and Jamie Cureton up front, I've played just off him and it has suited us.

"When you are away, teams have to come out against you when they are at home. They are under pressure to attack, and away from home you tend to get more space on the ball.

"At home, when teams sit in, it puts a bit of pressure to play passes that maybe you shouldn't play and then the ball gets nicked and teams get chances against us that they wouldn't usually get, just because we are over-playing it."

Gow was rumoured to be attracting the attentions of Gillingham in the January transfer window, probably partly due to a wonderful man-of-the-match performance at Priestfield in November which helped City to a 3-2 win at the League Two high-fliers.

However, Gow said he was not aware of any bid coming in for him and added that he is happy at St James' Park.

"I heard there were a few clubs interested, but I love it here," he added. "I've had a great time since I've been at Exeter City, so I'm happy here."

The talismanic Scottish forward added that City do need to sort out their home form if they are going to be contenders for promotion this season.

"A lot of teams have come to St James' Park and have sat in and made it difficult for us, especially if they've got an early goal," he said.

"Torquay and a few other clubs have done that against us. But we need to sort that problem out because, if we want to get promoted automatically, or even through the play-offs, then we need to start picking more points up at home.

"It is the final piece of the jigsaw, really, because, if you put together the home games that we should have won, then we would probably be top of the league."

Speaking about the Aldershot game, Gow added: "It probably wasn't the best game on the eye for the supporters.

"Unfortunately, they were not great conditions, but we still got a point out of it so it was better than nothing, I suppose.

" Aldershot have come here and frustrated us and they have done their job, but hopefully we will go away to Morecambe and do our job and get all three."
