PLYMOUTH Green Party would like to explain some of the reasons why it's a bad idea to reopen Plymouth airport.
The global environmental crisis is becoming very serious and in the near future the world's governments are going to have to restrict the very damaging effects of air travel.
In any case the financial costs of flying (fuel, etc) are going to increase massively.
Plymouth's future does not depend upon us having a small and expensive airport used by just a few select people (such as the Princess Royal – The Herald, September 24).

Any business that won't come to the city because there's no airport is an unsustainable and short-sighted business.
Plymouth Greens believe passionately in a prosperous future for the city and we've been discussing ideas for revitalising the city centre by actively encouraging small local businesses, which are much better for creating local jobs and keeping work and money within the local area.
We fear the campaign for the airport is increasingly hysterical during these difficult times when in reality we should be discussing how to secure an economically and environmentally sustainable future for our region.
