Plymouth's Tom Daley parades through London with other Olympic heroes
THE city's sporting stars helped bring Britain's astonishing summer of sport to a colourful and emotional climax yesterday as they paraded through London.
Olympian Tom Daley proudly wore his bronze medal around his neck as he joined hundreds of Olympic and Paralympic athletes on a parade through the capital to finally bring the curtain down on London 2012.
He joined the stars of the Olympics' Super Saturday, Mo Farah who won gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m, heptathlon gold medallist Jessica Ennis and long jump champion Greg Rutherford, as well as Team GB's cycling stars including Sir Chris Hoy, Jason Kenny, Laura Trott and Victoria Pendleton.
Talented athletes waved to crowds of fans, dozens deep in places, who created a sea of red, white and blue as their sporting heroes passed by on open-top floats.

Tens of thousands of spectators lined the streets as the procession wound its way through a sea of Union Jacks from Mansion House to Buckingham Palace.
Around 700 British Olympic and Paralympic athletes, including more than 90 per cent of the medal winners, took part in the parade, which included a fly-past by a British Airways jet and the Red Arrows.
As the procession came to an end, Prime Minister David Cameron told the crowd: "This is the great British summer that will be remembered in hundreds of years to come. You showed us the best face of Britain, who we really are, one United Kingdom, one flag, one celebration. And you showed us all that we can be.
All-welcoming, tolerant, vibrant, with a future every bit as exciting and thrilling as our past.
"On behalf of the whole nation, thank you. Thank you to the athletes, to Team GB, to ParalympicsGB. You have given us a golden summer of British sport and you have made us all so proud. You have given us memories that we will never forget. The whole country salutes your brilliance."

“oh just when we thought the td name had disappeared here it comes again how much longer do we have to suffer the little orange smurf he only won a bronze for gods sake a lot of the paralympic team did much better and dont even start on the sob story about his dad so bring on the red arrows but enough is enough its all done and dusted games over”
