Handbag robbery case sent to judge
A MAN accused of robbery of a handbag in Torquay has had his case sent to trial at Exeter Crown Court.
David Durdey, 31, of Coburg Place, Torquay, denies snatching a handbag from a woman in Thurlow Road, Torquay, on the morning on August 31.
Magistrates committed Durdey to stand trail on September 17 at Exeter Crown Court.
He was granted bail on condition of residence and an electronic 7pm to 7am curfew.
A MAN has been banned from entering a Newton Abbot street as part of his bail conditions after an incident in a town centre bar in which he was allegedly armed with a knife.
Samuel Parnell, 18, and from Exeter Road, Kingsteignton, was charged with being in possession of an offensive weapon in Market Street.
The charge relates to an incident at Bar 7 involving an altercation between Parnell and a member of staff.
Parnell pleaded not guilty to the charge at Newton Abbot Magistrates' Court yesterday.
He was remanded on conditional bail not to enter Market Street between the hours of 6pm and 3am or to contact any Bar 7 employee, directly or indirectly.
The case was adjourned until Monday, November 1, for committal to Crown Court.
VANDALS smashed a window in a door at the Totnes Bookshop in Totnes High Street, by kicking it between 5pm on Sunday and 8.45am on Monday.
FIREFIGHTERS were last night tackling a farm fire in Dawlish.
Five crews from Dawlish, Torquay, Teignmouth, Newton Abbot and Teignmouth were called to Aller Farm after the alarm was raised at 3.30pm.
A range of farm buildings were found well alight.
Firefighters were dealing with asbestos roofing and trying to stop the spread of the flames to other buildings.
There were no casualties.
Crews were still battling the fire at the time of going to press.
A water bowser and incident support units were also in attendance.
A LADIES' brown town bicycle worth £300 was stolen from the driveway of a home in Denys Road, Totnes, between 9.30pm Tuesday, August 31 and 7.30am the next day.
The theft was not reported to the police until Monday this week.
THE fire service were called to a car fire yesterday morning.
One crew from Bovey Tracey and one crew from Newton Abbot went to the fire in Old Liverton Road in Liverton with Station Commander Heywood in charge.
The crews got to work using two breathing apparatus and two hose reels to help extinguish the fire which severely damaged the car and ten metres of hedgerow.
