Plymouth Herald

I READ lately about Neill Mitchell's plan for a railway bypass to avoid the sea wall at Dawlish. This has come to light due to the recent landslip there.

But what I find funny is the fact that Neill had to bring up the issue of the loss of air links in Plymouth. This is some lame excuse. It would cost millions more to re-route the main line from Newton Abbott to Dawlish Warren.

Anyone with an ounce of common sense would see that Plymouth could reopen the airport and use money on the infrastructure of land at Plymouth Airport and get aircraft flying again. There would be no destruction of the countryside and obviously the line at Dawlish was built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel for it was the best place to run the railway due to the high terrain of land between Plymouth and Exeter.

I would like to point out that this railway has lasted for well over 100 years.

Why waste millions on the railway when it is far more cheaper to reopen the airport? Please don't make me laugh.
