Exmouth coach Jon Hill will stress to his players that they cannot afford to be complacent when lowly Bridgwater visit the Imperial Ground in National League Three South West tomorrow.

The Cockles' 26-22 win at third-placed Redingensians last Saturday confirmed them as the form side of the division right now – a label Hill is not quite comfortable with. "We are in a good vein of form, but won't be under-estimating Bridgwater," he said. "When we went to Oxford Harlequins before Christmas we were playing well and expected to win – and didn't.

"One of the reasons we have done so well since is consistency of performance. The win at Redingensians showed what we are capable of at our best. Now we need to reproduce it."

Exmouth will be without England Colleges trio Ben King, George Meadows and Will Norton, who are playing against Leicester Tigers Academy at Welford Road.

Into a reshuffled squad come Matt Garner, Phil Kaye, Dale Sleeman and Jack Downie.

Barnstaple, a place and three points behind Exmouth, are at home to bogey side Chippenham. They were struggling when Barnstaple went there earlier in the season – and lost 26-23.

Kevin Squire, Barnstaple's director of rugby, will not make the mistake of publicly predicting victory again after that defeat, especially as Chippenham are just one place below them in sixth spot. "In the last five meetings with Chippenham, they've won three of them, so we know it's going to be tough," he said. "Since we went there, Chippenham have improved dramatically and Exmouth's win over them a couple of weeks ago went against the formbook.

"We need to execute our chances against Chippenham and put them away, otherwise we could have a problem."

Newton Abbot go to leaders Bournemouth facing a fourth successive defeat.

The 21-19 defeat by Barnstaple was an improvement on losses to Amersham (26-19) and Exmouth (27-10) and it is the quality of performance the All Whites wish to maintain.

"You have to be pragmatic and say in our last four games against Bournemouth we have come off very second best, and we would have to play out of skins to win there," Newton's director of rugby, Phil Burford, said.

"What I'm looking for is more of the performance we put in against Barnstaple."

Taunton have no game this weekend in National Two South, but the dust is still settling at Hyde Park on the internal wranglings which led to committee resignations and the suspension of Lee Waddon as director of rugby.

Two weeks on, Waddon is still suspended while investigations continue. A club spokesman last night said a statement on the direction of the club is expected soon.
