Holiday contest joined by Asda to aid hospice
SUPERMARKET company Asda has signed up to the Big North Devon Holiday Break competition.
Anne Tattersall says there has been a great response to her idea, in which companies will allow staff to win an extra day of holiday.
One overall winner will win a luxurious weekend at the Woolacombe Bay Hotel.
The North Devon Journal signed up to the contest last week and now 250 staff at Asda in Bideford are also involved.
Peter Wilcox, at Asda, said: "We thought this was a great way of involving all the staff to support the hospice.
"They are all keen to win an extra day's holiday and hopefully win a luxurious weekend at the Woolacombe Bay Hotel.
"We are hoping that all the staff take part and we can raise lots of money for our local hospice."
The competition was dreamed up by Anne Tattersall to support her fundraising for North Devon Hospice.
She is doing a sky dive to raise funds to buy a mattress for one of the beds at the hospice.
Anne said: "My friend Richard Best told me that he could not think of anything worse than doing a sky dive apart from lying on the mattress I am raising money for and that summed up exactly what I am trying to achieve.
"I am thrilled that the Big Holiday Break has captured the imagination of ASDA and I hope that lots of other companies take part."
Anne is also holding a Nearly New Day at her home on Sunday, March 6. It will run from 10am to 5pm at Well Garden, Limers Hill, Torrington.
"Lots of my friends have donated really good quality clothes, jewellery and other little gems for the day.
"Tea, coffee and wine will be available and visitors can pick up loads of bargains and leave a donation.
"It will be a really fun and social day and everyone is welcome.
"If anyone would like to donate any good quality clothes, bric-a-brac, books etc please ring me on 07971 696192 and I will come and collect."
