Home defence is all we can afford
THE UK is no longer able to take on global responsibilities or the means to police the rest of the world stage. Why! We no longer have the service capability to do this task.
Our leaders have reduced the numbers in our armed services and the means to be able to carry out these duties. A recent report, by a group of distinguished former senior servicemen, shows that the RAF have no more than two back-up squadrons able to support any lengthy military operation, only one Army brigade and possibly six Naval ships!
It is now time for us to realise that the UK is just above third world status, having poor people and dereliction all around us. We are no longer a true world leader nor empire builder, just a small island stuck between the Atlantic and the North Sea.
All we can afford now is to support a home defence force, multi service, one uniform, one chief, using US style coastguard vessels, with the Army patrolling airports, ports and important sites (not armed police).

The cost of replacing the four ageing Trident submarines, at a current cost of £20 billion, has been questioned by senior military commanders, together with the benefits of this style of deterrent, together with the heavy cost of the two new carriers, (with no aircraft yet planned to use them). All this money, even less, could be better spent defending the islands, as mentioned above, plus strategically placed ground missile sites around the UK.
Let others pick up the tab for policing the world or let them cough up the cost to allow us to do it. We need to look after our own interests, (overseas and stops here) and to stop meddling in other nations disputes (how many would support us!). Another Afghanistan/Iraq style conflict would bring us to our knees.
Let's get some ordinary people into this Parliament, instead of so-called professional candidates. Power to the people. Keep listening.
