Homeless man left fighting for life after Plymouth attack
A HOMELESS man was left fighting for his life by what police are describing as a mystery attack.
Detectives believe the 51-year-old was approached from behind and struck with a heavy object in broad daylight in Millbay.
He suffered a fractured jaw, a broken nose, a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.
The man was knocked unconscious in the alleged incident and has been unable to tell police what happened.
But after waking up in intensive care, he told officers he believed he was attacked from behind.
Detective Constable Tona Pooley, who is investigating, said it was unclear what the man had been struck with.
He was found unconscious and taken to Derriford Hospital, where he remained for several days before being discharged.
The alleged incident happened outside the Ship Hostel in Millbay Road sometime between 7pm and 7.30pm on Thursday, September 20.
Police believe the area would have been busy enough at the time for members of the public to have noticed a commotion.
They are keen to hear from anyone who believes they may have witnessed the alleged incident, or the moments leading up to it.
