Hopes for successful cash bid
COUNCILLORS are expected to hear this week whether their bid for a share of the £100,000 High Street Innovation Fund (HSIF) to hold a major market has been successful.
Leaders of the project at Cullompton Town Council will meet Phoenix House chiefs charged with awarding grants this Friday afternoon.
Cllr Michael Speirs, who co-wrote the business plan for the market, said: "The market goes ahead and it starts on Saturday, December 1, and it runs from then onwards. Our only hurdle to get over now is the need for some money from the HSIF."
Cullompton Regeneration Action Group (CRAG) has so far agreed to give £11,500 to the project and a successful bid for HSIF money will help promote the event across the county.
So far, in excess of 20 traders have expressed an interest in setting up a stall at the market which is expected to run from 9am until 3pm on Saturdays and Wednesdays. The council will start the event with a total of eight gazebos but planning permission to extend this to 12 will be sought.
