A fire which started in the roof of a Paignton house has left the rest of the property severely damaged.

Two fire crews from Paignton and one from Torquay were called to Hayes Gardens, St Michaels in Paignton at 7:49pm.

Fire crews found the roof the house well alight and started to tackle the fire using one main jet and two breathing apparatus wearers.

Fire crews later requested another crew from Torquay as well as an incident support unit and a supporting appliance from Totnes.

The first floor and the loft conversion, measuring approximately fifteen metres by fifteen metres,

of the mid-terraced house was well alight.

Fire crews used a thermal image camera to check for hot spots and ladders for access.

The loft conversion, the first floor and the roof were severely damaged by fire with the ground floor severely damaged by water.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated by the Fire Service.
