Hundreds brave icy sea to take a New Year dip
Naval officers, Santas, men in tutus and swimmers in bikinis all took to chilly waters for an annual New Year's Day dip to start the year.
Hundreds of swimmers around the Westcountry braved the icy seas, many to raise funds for charity, as the traditional plunge took place yesterday.

There were swims in Wembury near Plymouth, at Newquay, Looe, Gorran Haven and Cawsand in Cornwall, at Lyme Regis in Dorset and at Clevedon in Somerset to name but a few up and down the country.
At Wembury, organiser Terry Clarke hailed the clear blue sky for helping to raise the number of swimmers to 200 and the number of spectators to a ninth-year high.

Mr Clarke, aged 78, said: "It was our best year yet. The weather always makes it. There were hundreds of spectators all along the footpath at Wembury and they packed the beach."
