IT WAS an unusual spot to host the last meet of the hunting season.

A beautiful Cornish beach was the venue for the Four Burrow Hunt.

Members of the hunting community gathered on Saturday on the sands at Porthluney beach, Caerhays, near Truro.

Huntsman Paul Hancock and his daughter joined fellow riders with their hounds as they set off from the beach.

The meet was hosted by Arthur Broom, farm manager of the nearby Caerhays Estate.

The hunt has been based in North Cornwall for over 200 years and its terrain spans between Bodmin and the Lizard. The Four Burrow Hounds were founded on January 1, 1780, and with them was formed the Four Burrow Hunt Club, named after stone age burial grounds at Four Burrows, a prominent landmark in their area. Most packs of hounds two centuries ago took their names from their owners, but the Four Burrow are unique in taking their name from a central point.

“If you've ever seen a normally spotless beach after the visit of an enormous school group - or even an influx of tourists - James, you wouldn't complain about the organic deposits! Well done Four Burrow, must have been a lovely sight and a great way to end the season :)”

“Why are they still hunting, thought it was illegal? Or are you going to tell me they are after a scent or its a mock hunt!! Likely story. Once again Four Burrow hunt taking over public area and acting as if they own the place!”

“James, Cornwall - what was the problem with the beach? Some foot prints and a bit of horse muck, well thats country life for you. The Next high tide and away it goes.
Don't worry to much about the beach at Porthluney it's the banks of the Thames at Westminster that need cleaning up.
There is a terrible stench of corruption rising from there but what else should we expect with so many MP's and Minister snouting in the trough for every penny they can get.
Intensive politics, it's a very nasty business and should be banned.”

“Hope they dont make a habit of this.
As expected, the beach was in a disgraceful state after they left.”
