Icy weather causes spate of car crashes
Freezing conditions contributed to a string of accidents on the region's roads yesterday, according to police.
In the first of many collisions – despite extensive gritting – officers were called to the A30 eastbound at Sourton Cross where a 3.5-tonne van had slid into the crash barrier at 5.45am.

Another two vehicles left the road in Tavistock in two separate crashes. One car overturned near the Whitchurch turn-off at 7.05am, along with another car which crashed in the same location.
A small bridge near Kingsbridge was completely blocked yesterday morning after a tractor and car collided.

The black Renault Megane and the tractor crashed on Bowcombe Bridge at 9.08am.
Meanwhile Devon Air Ambulance was called to a crash at Crediton after a silver Toyota Yaris came to rest on its roof at Creedy Bridge near the Shoebrook turning.
The driver of the car was found to be not seriously injured and the air ambulance was stood down.
On the A361 near Barnstaple a two-car crash left fluid leaking on the road.
Hazardous driving conditions were also reported on the A361 in Ilfracombe at Mullacott Cross roundabout.
