Ilfracombe prepares to welcome 65ft pregnant Verity
A 65ft high statue of a naked pregnant woman holding aloft a sword will definitely be installed at Ilfracombe, it was decided yesterday.
Damien Hirst's controversial statue, named Verity, was given planning permission by councillors in North Devon on Wednesday.

Yesterday, it cleared the final hurdle when a meeting of the full council decided to accept an offer made by the artist to loan the bronze clad work to the town for 20 years.
Verity, part of whose naked belly is exposed to reveal the foetus growing inside, will stand at the entrance to Ilfracombe harbour.

It is expected that the statue will be transported into the North Devon town overnight on October 3 and raised into position by October 17 or 18.
The installation by Hirst, who owns a restaurant in the resort, has divided opinions in the community and most admit that it has been a major topic of conversation during the consultation period.
Many people said they disliked the statue, but believed it would act as a powerful economic driver and become North Devon's answer to the Angel of the North.
Opponents condemned it as distasteful, demeaning and disrespectful to women.
