Illegal workers are deported back to China after raid at Plymouth takeaway
TWO Chinese illegal workers caught in a UK Border Agency raid at a Plympton takeaway have been removed from the UK.
The pair were arrested at Peking House, Westfield, Plympton, on June 12 after officers carried out an intelligence-led raid.
-

Immigration checks on the men revealed that a 41-year-old kitchen worker had entered the UK illegally, while his fellow kitchen worker – aged 40 – had stayed in the UK illegally after his visa expired.
As part of their investigations, Border Agency officers carried out a search of the men's small third floor shared bedroom in King Street, Stonehouse.

The search revealed an invalid passport and a fake drivers provisional licence.
The pair were taken to Charles Cross police station for further questioning before being transferred to immigration detention to await the emergency travel documents necessary for their removal to China.
The 41-year-old was removed on July 6 while the 40-year-old was removed on Monday.
Richard Taylor, of the UK Border Agency, said: "Our message to people who are in the UK illegally is that they must leave. As this case shows, we will take action to remove those who break the law.
"Illegal working has a serious impact on communities, taking jobs from those who are legally entitled to work and undercutting law-abiding businesses.
"The UK Border Agency is determined to stamp out the problem of illegal working and we want the public to contact us if they have any information on businesses or people who are flouting immigration law."
The UK Border Agency said it was still considering whether Peking House should face a fine of up to £20,000 – £10,000 per worker – for employing the illegal staff.
To avoid the penalty, the employer must prove that legally-required checks like taking copies of a passport or a Home Office document were made on the men before they were taken on.

“It took me six years to get a unrestricted Green Card for Germany as a British citizen. That's proving i had work, a place to live and a clean police record. I had to go to the authorities every two years to extend my provisional Green Card and had to talk to them in German, read & write for them before i was given the stamp i needed on my card. As my passport expired last year i was informed almost instantly that i'll be soon illegal in Germany so i renewed my passport. This kind of control is only possible when the Border authorities do their job properly. I come home to the UK every year and drive through customs without any checks what so ever sometimes. So stop them getting in in the first place or let them in with the right controls and check their status every three or six months. Needless to say deport them strait away when caught breaking the law.”

“Why up to £10,000 per worker? This gives the lenient courts an excuse for a derisory fine to be imposed. It should be fixed at £10,000 with no wriggle room. These employers are not only flouting the immigration rules they are exploiting the illegal immigrants as well as denying jobs for those entitled to be in this country.”
