INDIE legends Doves and folk rock upstarts Mumford and Sons have been confirmed for this summer's Eden Sessions.

Their show will take place on Friday, July 2 and will mark a welcome return to the Eden Project for Doves who played the first year of the Sessions back in 2002.

It's a fitting celebration considering that next month sees the release of the Manchester band's greatest hits collection The Places Between: The Best of Doves.

Nominated in the Best British Band category at this year's BRIT Awards, they have released four studio albums since 2000 – Lost Souls, chart-toppers The Last Broadcast and Some Cities and last year's Kingdom of Rust. The first two were shortlisted for the Mercury Prize.

Memorable single releases include There Goes the Fear, Black and White Town and Snowden and with such a rich back catalogue and a reputation for rousing live shows, there's no doubt they can delight an Eden crowd.

Mumford and Sons are relative newcomers, having emerged from the prolific West London folk scene and making a quick and deep impression.

Their sound blends the delicacy and lyrical deftness of the finest acoustic acts mixed with the sense of gravity more readily associated with rock bands.

They wowed audiences with their Top 10 debut Sigh No More, released late last year. The album, which spawned the singles Little Lion Man, Winter Winds and The Cave, garnered significant attention from radio DJs and critics, bolstering their hard-earned touring reputation.

Tjarko Wieringa, Eden Sessions creative director, said: "We're really excited to welcome Doves back to Eden after playing such a brilliant gig here in 2002. Mumford and Sons are one of the best new acts around and the combination of the two promises another legendary Session."

Tickets for the show by pop prince Mika on June 27 are already on sale and the Jack Johnson headliner on June 26 is sold out. The Sessions are famed not only for bringing top acts to Cornwall but also for their festival feel, with bands and entertainers around the site in the run-up to the main event. This year massage and alternative therapies will also be showcased around Eden on the day of each Session.

Tickets for the Doves and Mumford and Sons Session are on sale to members of the Inside Track programme now and on general release at 6pm on Tuesday, March 9.
