EXETER City youngster Jake Gosling is predicting a bright future for the club having made his debut this month against Southend United.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder feels there is a good crop of youngsters coming through the club who are benefiting from being involved in the first team and learning from the more experienced players in the squad.

"We have got a good bunch of players coming through," said Gosling, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Dorchester Town.

"Youngsters like Jacob Cane, Jamie Reid and Jordan Moore-Taylor have all made their debuts this season and so I really think we have got a bright future for Exeter with the younger lads."

Gosling came on as a substitute during the 3-0 win over Southend and, despite looking lively in the final half-hour of the match, he is not getting carried away with how many appearances he could make.

"I think I did okay," he said. "I think it was quite hard to impress with the amount of time I had, but I could have done a lot wrong whereas I seemed to do okay.

"I enjoyed it and it is another tick off the list of what I want to achieve this season.

"I have been on loan and I felt I improved as a player while I was at Dorchester.

"Now I just want to be involved in and around the (Exeter City) first team and play more football. I'm not going to set my targets too high though as I know I'm not going to be starting every game just yet, but obviously I do want to be involved in and around the squad playing a bit more football."

Speaking about his debut, Gosling said that he had a feeling he would be involved in the game against Southend despite not being given any warning by the manager.

"For some reason I had it in my head that morning that I was going to play and then I just saw Rob Edwards (Exeter City's assistant manager) turn around and point at me and say 'you're coming on'.

"It was a bit of a shock, but I wouldn't say I was nervous. I was excited and I had a sort of a buzz to try and impress."
