Jason Huxtable faces driving charges after Loxhore Cross crash kills Johnny Popple and Emma Kift

A MAN accused of being almost twice the drink drive limit has been summonsed to court following a car crash at Loxhore Cross, North Devon, which left a man and woman from Bratton Fleming dead.

Jason Mark Huxtable, 22, of Parsonage Farm, Bratton Fleming, is accused of four offences relating to the crash in the early hours of June 1 last year.

Emma Kift, 21, and Johnny Popple, 23, both from Bratton Fleming, were killed in the crash.

Huxtable faces two charges of causing death by driving without due care and attention while over the drink drive limit and two charges of causing death while driving a Rover 25 car which he was unlicensed, uninsured or disqualified from driving.

He is accused of having had a blood alcohol reading of nearly double the legal limit. The summons alleges that when he gave a blood sample at Barnstaple Police Station he was found to have 157 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80.

Huxtable will appear before North Devon Magistrates' Court on Friday, February 1.

Shortly after the crash Emma Kift was described by her family as "a devoted mother and very special daughter".

"Emma will be sorely missed by everyone in her extended family and extensive network of friends," said her family in a statement released through Devon and Cornwall Police. "She enjoyed life to the full and her proudest achievement was her son.

A 20-year-old man who survived the crash was arrested along with Huxtable after the crash, but was released without charge.
