YOUNGSTER Jessie Jones is putting her shirt on making it big in football – or cricket – when she grows up. Several shirts, in fact.

The 13-year-old Ivybridge Community College student and central midfielder is due to pick up a new England football shirt after being selected for her age group.

She's just returned from a training camp where she rubbed shoulders with players from Arsenal and Chelsea.

And she turns out in the colours of the Plymouth Argyle Centre of Excellence.

Then there's cricket. Cornwood Cricket Club's rising star has shirts from Devon under-17 girls, under-15 girls and was captain of the under-13 team.

Last year, she scored a century playing for Devon against Cornwall.

Jones also plays for her local club, Cornwood, in the men's third team.

Dad Graham, who played at a decent level in the Devon Cricket League, thinks his daughter might have got that part of her sporting make-up from him. But he's got no idea where Jones' prowess with a football has come from.

He said: "I used to play cricket, but I was also a rugby player, so I'm not sure where the football side's come from.

"She is excellent at both games and from a very young age has shown a will to win."

Jones has also received a glowing tribute from Devon FA director Mark Gammon.

Gammon said: "Jessie has been involved with the Plymouth Argyle and Devon FA Centre of Excellence since the age of 11. In this time she has developed as a player and a person.

"Such is her development she has been invited to a number of 'Elite Player' training camps with the England under-15 squads.

"Jessie is very much on the radar of the England set up and if she continues in this manner could find herself in the full national squad."
