Yeovil Town striker Jon Obika believes he is one goal away from the floodgates opening during his latest loan spell.

The Tottenham Hotspur front man has a solitary strike to his name from an injury-ravaged season at Hush Park, but remains confident in his ability.

With the Glovers creating more than ten chances in each of their last two outings, Obika said a run of goals was just around the corner.

“I am enjoying playing and I think my performances are getting better,” he said as he prepared for today’s npower League One away game at Sheffield Wednesday.

“I know sooner or later that I will get that goal and go on a good run. I want to score in every game and you do not go out there not to score. When I do get that next goal, I know they will start pouring in.

“I know they [the management team] want to feed the strikers in a lot and I will definitely get chances there. I believe that I am a goalscorer so once I get that first goal, with the confidence you can do everything and I am sure the floodgates will open.”

Obika has started 12 times in his fourth temporary spell with the Glovers and is enjoying an extended run with new boss Gary Johnson at the helm.

The 21-year-old played under Johnson during a loan period at Peterborough United and said that even though personnel had changed during his time with Yeovil, the principles had remained constant.

“It is a different team but nothing is different about the club. There are still quality players around the ground and the management have the same beliefs and principles so it is just on the game.

“It is down to you if you do not score. If you do score, that is great, but if you do not, you know that you need to work on stuff.”

Obika said it was up to the relegation battlers to upset the odds at Hillsborough today against the Owls.

“A lot of people think Sheffield Wednesday should not be in this league. It will be a good scalp to have and I am sure we will do well up there.

“The result against Preston North End [last Saturday’s 2-1 win] was definitely important but it was a good performance as well and everyone is buzzing around the club.

“It will be the first time I have played there as I have always been injured before and I am looking forward to it.

“Sheffield United away was rocking and it was a great experience, so I am looking forward to this occasion.

“Everyone looks at the fixtures and you look at the Sheffield games and those against the big teams. You want to play against them and all of the boys should be ready for this.

“I believe that we are capable of doing it so we just have to get there and show it on the day. I think they will be in and around the promotion places.

“They are doing well at the moment and if they keep that form going, they definitely will go up.”
