Joss's efforts result in major cost savings for Pall
An engineering graduate has saved manufacturer Pall Newquay hundreds of thousands of pounds after taking part in the Unlocking Cornish Potential Scheme.
Joss Hawkins was employed in 2011 under the UCP scheme by filtration and purification system manufacturer Pall as project engineer. The Convergence-funded UCP scheme sees graduates placed with businesses in Cornwall with support including mentoring available for up to a year.

Joss was tasked with helping to manage an £800,000 project for the installation of an anaerobic digestion plant, reducing the costs and the carbon footprint of transporting waste off site.
"Working on a large project in my first year of employment has been both a challenging and rewarding experience. I have savoured the opportunity to get involved and hopefully paid off some of the confidence placed in me," he said.

Andy Gill, facilities manager at Pall Newquay, said: "Joss demonstrated a level of maturity beyond his years. These elements ensured the project was delivered on time, on budget and delivered the savings that were targeted. The project that Joss has undertaken has raised the profile of the Newquay facility within the corporation. It has also been done so on time and on budget, the results have met the target savings and it has led to a significant reduction in Pall Newquay's carbon footprint."
Joss last year won the UCP Contribution to Environmental Sustainability award and his work contributed to Pall being named overall winner of last month's Cornwall Sustainability Awards.
